How To Generate A Number Transfer PIN On T-Mobile
A “Number Transfer PIN”, or “NTP” for short, is a pin code that can be generated on the fly to authorize a port-out of your phone number to another carrier. It’s standard practice now across the industry, and while T-Mobile was a bit late to the game, they now require an NTP to be generated when porting your number out to another carrier.
Why is a Number Transfer PIN necessary?
The 6-digit PIN code is a way to make sure the port-out request is legitimate. The idea is that if a bad actor wanted to port out your number, they would need full access to your T-Mobile account before a port would complete. Both AT&T and Verizon also use the same process.
T-Mobile added their NTP requirement in April of 2022. In order to port your number to another carrier like AT&T or Verizon, you’ll need to generate one. This code is then given to your new carrier as authorization for the port-out. In order to generate an NTP code, you must be the primary account holder on the T-Mobile account.
Generate a PIN in the T-Mobile app
There are two methods to generate a transfer PIN. The first method uses the official T-Mobile app.
Step 1: Open the T-Mobile app and sign in using the primary account holder’s login if you haven’t already. Go to the “Account” tab and tap “Profile Settings”.
Step 2: Once on the profile settings page, tap “Line Settings”.
Step 3: Be sure the number you want to port out is chosen at the top of the screen. At the bottom of the screen you should see “Request a transfer PIN”. Tap that to generate your NTP code.
Generate a PIN using the T-Mobile website
The second method of generating a transfer PIN is to use the My T-Mobile website located at https://my.t-mobile.com.
Step 1: Open the My T-Mobile website on your device. Log in using the primary account holder’s login. Once you’re signed in, hover over “My account” at the top right of your screen and choose “Profile”.
Step 2: Next, find “Line Settings” in the list of options and click it.
Step 3: On the Line Settings page, be sure the number you wish to port out is selected at the top, then click “Request a transfer PIN” at the bottom of the list of options.
