About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced BACP accredited Person-Centred counsellor and Integrative clinical supervisor.
As a counsellor, I offer you a chance to talk through a wide range of issues about the various challenges you may be facing. I work both short-term and long-term.
Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression or stress, having problems with addiction, low self-esteem, low self-confidence or feeling stuck in your life, I can help you to gain new insights and discover new ways of feeling, thinking and behaving.
Many years of working with a diverse range of people and organisations enables me to work well with individuals from all communities and backgrounds.
My south London counselling practice has been running since 2002. Prior to that I worked as a counsellor and organisational manager supporting people with addictions and people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) communities from 1996. This included a focus on those from Black and minority ethnic (BME) communities and people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Whatever the challenges you are facing, I provide a comfortable, confidential space which is safe and respectful where you can talk about your challenges and gain insight into problems that you feel unable to resolve on your own.
Practice description
Are you feeling anxious, uncertain, empty, and unhappy? Perhaps you distract yourself from feelings like these by drinking, taking drugs, finding yourself, yet again, in an unsuitable relationship?
If so, you may be thinking about taking the first steps towards change. That’s where working with me as a therapist can come in.
I will work with you by providing a space in which you can, with my support, look anew at your situation, think about the underlying causes of problems and begin your process of change.
I will help you identify underlying themes and patterns of behaviour that make you unhappy or unproductive and support you to achieve change.
I aim to support you achieve happy and fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others.
My first session
Your first session will normally last 50-60mins. I will ask a range of questions about you and your life, eg
Why you sought therapy at this time? A particular issue probably led you to seek counselling. I need to understand your immediate problem(s) before I can begin to get to deeper issues.
Your personal history: I will ask you questions about your life, explore your family history and your current relationship situation.
Your current symptoms: I may attempt to discover if you are experiencing other symptoms. For example, your problem might be causing you difficulty at work or affecting your sleep. I use this information to help me understand your problem and guide how I might work with you.
You are an active partner: Therapy is a team effort. Taking a full part in your session will help you get the most from it.
Be open: Therapists are trained to ask questions, It will help me help you if you can answer my questions openly and honestly.
Be prepared: Before the session try to give some thought to “what’s wrong.” Try and describe the feelings you have about your problem. It can be helpful to write down the reasons you are seeking help. Make a list and then read it out loud. Hearing yourself say it may help you describe things more clearly.
Ask questions. The more you understand counselling the more comfortable you will be. Feel free to ask questions and ask me to repeat anything you don’t understand.
Be open and honest. A lot will be going on for you in your first session. Try to be aware of your feelings and try to share them with me. That’s what I am here for! We will both learn from these insights. I know this can sometimes be difficult, but don’t let that put you off.
Be realistic. Come to your first session with realistic expectations. Counselling is not a quick fix. It is a process. With some effort on your part and a strong relationship with your therapist, it can be a powerful tool that contributes to resolving your problems.

Practice description
My south London counselling practice has been running since 2002.
Prior to that I worked as a counsellor and organisational manager supporting people with addictions and people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) communities from 1996. I also worked as a mental and sexual health counsellor. This included a focus on those from Black and minority ethnic (BME) communities and people affected by HIV/AIDS.
I previously worked at various third sector organisations across London. I offered clinical supervision to individuals, groups, trainees and experienced practising therapists.
I have an understand of some of the challenges you may have to deal with working within an organisational setting eg:
• Delivering services with limited resources, but expectation of high outcomes
• When working within an educational setting: the difficulties of finding and negotiating a safe space for you to practice, some organisations not understanding your role as a counsellor/therapist.
I have been in full time private practice for many years and have lots of experience dealing with some of the joys & challenges of being self-employed.
Within my supervision practice one of the main focuses is on “Self-care:” how do we take care of ourselves while we are supporting others emotionally? How to we prevent burnout and identify the signs leading up to it?
Supervision sessions will be led by you and focused on the issues and challenges you bring to the session. Whether you need to reflect on your work with a particular client, feel stuck in your approaches, need feedback on an essay/case study or are thinking about doing your accreditation, as your supervisor I can support you to navigate these challenges.
NB: For more information on accreditation support please follow the link on my website under supervision.
