How to Create a Survey in Discord Chat on PC or Mac

Open Discord. The Discord app features a mouthless face on top of a purple dialogue bubble, which you can find in the Start menu (Windows) or the Applications folder (Mac). Your Discord account will open if you’re signed in.

• If you’re not logged into Discord, you’ll need to enter your email address and password and click Log In .
• If you want to use the web version of Discord, go to https://discordapp.com/ and click the purple Open Discord button.

Select server. Click the abbreviation of the server you want to survey on the left side of the Discord window.

Select channel. Click some text channel on the left side of the Discord window to open it. This will be the channel where you want to create the survey.

• If you want to create a survey-specific channel, click the + next to the “TEXT CHANNELS” heading, enter a name for the channel (for example, “Survey”), and then select Create Channel . channel).

Set user permissions for the channel. Click Settings

(Settings) located to the right of the channel name, then:

• Click Permissions
• Select @everyone below the “ROLE/MEMBERS” heading on the right side of the page.

• Scroll down and click the red X next to all the other options.
• Click Save Changes .
• Press the Esc key or click the X in the upper right of the window.

Create survey questions. Type the question in the channel’s text box and then press ↵ Enter . The question will be added to the server.

• For example, you could ask, “Which animal is cuter: an owl or a raccoon?”.

Add emojis to questions. Hover your mouse pointer over the question until a smiley face appears next to it, click on the face icon and select a reaction emotion (such as the yes sign indicating “approval”), then That adds emojis for other reactions.

• Once done, below the question will be at least two emojis.

Explain the survey rules to the channel. This usually includes “Click [emoji 1] for up vote and [emoji 2] for down vote” or similar.

• For example, in a survey on whether pizza is a vegetable, you might describe: “Click the yes sign to answer ‘yes’ or the disapproval sign to answer ‘no'”.

Allow members to react. People in the channel can click an emoji to vote, the answer number will be to the right of that emoji.

• Since members can’t post their own replies, the amount of mock replies or alternative emojis will be minimized.

Check the results. After a certain time (or after everyone has finished voting), the emoji with the highest number of votes will be the winning answer.
