This wikiHow teaches you how to connect a Windows PC to a TV without cables. If you have a Smart TV (smart TV) with Chromecast or Miracast built in (most modern TVs but not Apple’s), you can usually mirror your PC screen content to your TV. If your TV doesn’t support Chromecast or Miracast but has the ability to connect to a Wi-Fi network, you can use a streaming device like a Roku or standalone Chromecast to establish a connection between your TV and PC.
Steps
Using Chromecast
- With the Google Chrome web browser, you can use it to mirror any web page to your TV. These websites include YouTube, Netflix, and Facebook. Google Chrome also allows you to mirror the entire Windows PC screen.
- If using Netflix, start playing the show or movie you want to show, then press pause to bring up the option buttons. The Cast icon will be at the top or bottom of the screen.
- Pass current browser tab: This is the default option so see the next step.
- Cast full screen: Click the down arrow next to “Cast to” and choose Cast desktop .
- Cast music or video files: Click the down arrow next to “Cast to”, select Cast file , and select the file you want to watch on your TV.
- On Google Chrome: Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and select Stop casting .
- On another app: Pause the content for the buttons to show up, then click the Cast icon to disconnect.
Using Miracast
- Use this link to find a searchable list of all TVs with built-in Miracast.
- Use Roku’s product comparison tool to see if your Roku model supports screen mirroring (a feature required with Miracast).
- Open the Windows Search search bar and type connect . [2] X Trusted Source Microsoft Support Go to Source
- Click Connect in the search results.
- If you see a message that your computer is ready for a wireless connection, you can use Miracast. If it says “This device doesn’t support Miracast” instead, you need to try something else (or buy a Miracast adapter to plug into the HDMI port on your PC).
- Click the Notification panel with the square chat bubble icon located to the right of the clock, usually in the lower right corner of the screen. If there is an active notification, a small number will be displayed on the icon.
- Click the Disconnect option next to the name of the TV or streaming device.
Advice
- Wireless connection to the TV screen is often not very stable. If you have problems connecting, try using an HDMI cable.
- If your TV is not a Smart TV, check if it has a USB port and supports Wi-Fi. If so, you can purchase a Chromecast or Roku streaming device to use with your computer.
- You can buy a wireless display adapter to fully use your computer on the big screen.
- If your TV or streaming device doesn’t appear in the list when you connect to project your screen, check to make sure your PC and TV are using the same Wi-Fi network and mirroring/casting options enabled in the settings of the TV as well as the streaming device.
