This wikiHow teaches you how to add hyperlinks to a PDF document you’ve created in Adobe Illustrator. Unfortunately, website addresses entered in Illustrator will not automatically convert to hyperlinks when you publish PDF files, but we can create clickable links using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe InDesign.
Steps
Creating Hyperlink Objects in Illustrator
- Click Open… and select the document to open the existing file.
- Click New… (New) to create a new document.
Note: If you add a hyperlink to Illustrator and hide above the content that you want to use as the “button” of the hyperlink, this object will not be clickable after we export the Illustrator file to PDF. You can use Illustrator to lay out the text or images to be used as a clickable object of the hyperlink before creating the actual link in Acrobat or InDesign.
- Click the Top Selection button with the black pointer icon in the upper left toolbar on the left side of the window.
- Click on the text where you will insert the hyperlink.
- Click the Type option in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
- Click the Create Outlines option in the middle of the menu.
- Click the Object option in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
- Click the Group option near the top of the menu.
- Click File
- Click Save As… (Save As)
- Enter the file name.
