Cockroaches are hideous little insects that no one wants to see them crawling around in the house, much less want them to come near the bed. Fortunately, there are things you can do to keep cockroaches out of your bed, or even your home.
Steps
Prevent cockroaches from entering rooms and beds
- Remember that cockroaches can squeeze through cracks and openings that are only 3mm tall. [1] X Research Source
- Wait for the glue to dry according to the product instructions.
- Stickers can be inserted into openings only 1-2mm wider than their body thickness.
- If you see a very small hole or if you only want a temporary fix, you can seal the hole with 2-3 layers of strong tape (such as cloth tape).

Do you know? Cockroaches are very good at detecting chemicals found in common repellants and insecticides, giving them a chance to escape. To avoid this, you can put bait on cockroaches and replace it every 1-2 weeks until the problem is resolved.
- Cockroaches can also crawl up the bottom of the mattress (the ruffle around the mattress). If you’re using a mattress skirt, leave it out.
Create an unfavorable environment for cockroaches
- Cockroaches especially love cardboard boxes and newspapers, so get rid of old newspapers and/or use plastic containers instead of cardboard boxes for storage.
- Try to put dirty clothes in the laundry basket and fold the clean clothes in a drawer or hang up in the closet.
- Remove all wallpaper and shelf paper, as cockroaches like to eat the glue on the back of these papers.
- You also need to clear away all glue, starch, soap, cloth, wood and even water sources, as cockroaches are voracious eaters.
- If possible, don’t leave food in the bedroom. If you need to leave food in the room, be sure to store it in a tightly sealed container or bag.
- Make sure the rubber seal on the refrigerator door is in good condition, as baby cockroaches can get inside.
Repel and destroy cockroaches
- Coffee grounds can also repel other insects (such as ants) thanks to the caffeine.
- Sweep or vacuum the mixture after a few days and throw away any dead cockroaches found.
- This mixture is safe to use in homes with children and pets.
- Keep boric acid out of the reach of children and pets, as it is toxic and very harmful if swallowed.
- Don’t forget to vacuum or wipe off the boric acid after 1-2 days.
- Boric acid is not effective when wet or sprinkled too much.
Advice
- If you’ve tried to keep cockroaches out of your bed, bedroom, and home, but nothing seems to work, call a pest control service.
