So you finally have your desired hair color – but now your hair is as frizzy as straw! Luckily, there’s a way to help you have beautiful hair color while keeping it soft. With the right products, the right hair care routine, and perhaps a few ingredients in the fridge, your beautifully colored hair will be silky smooth.
Steps
Restore moisture to hair
- If you dye your hair at a professional salon, you should use a hair conditioner immediately after dyeing.
- Often products that incorporate conditioners contain ingredients that are stronger and more harmful to the hair. Be careful when deciding on these products, and be sure to read the ingredients on the label.
- After dyeing your hair, you should avoid washing your hair again for 48-72 hours, better yet, don’t let your hair get wet. This will give your hair time to recover.
- There are several types of dry conditioners. If you’re using a dry conditioner, simply dab or spray on your hair while it’s still damp from the shower, and that’s it!
Maintain a proper hair care regimen
- Each person has their own needs. Some people need to wash their hair every other day, some people only wash it once a week. Look at the roots: if you see oil, you should wash your hair. Otherwise, you will save time to leisurely prepare for the new day!
- If you feel the need to clean your hair in the shower on days you don’t wash your hair, you can rinse and use conditioner.
- Concentrate shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the ends. Conditioners are usually more oily – you need to nourish the ends instead of focusing on the already oily roots.
- Bleach lightens hair color by removing the color of the hair, and is also harmful to the hair because it causes the hair cuticle to stand up, leading to tangles. This explains why conditioner is so important.
- Temporary or semi-permanent dyes do not contain bleach, so they can lighten your natural hair color with ease of use and less damage. However, temporary hair dye only lasts 6 weeks, so you’ll often have to re-color it more often, and can end up damaging your hair.
- Permanent dyes are much more durable, but the ingredients in them (oxidants and ammonia) are more harmful to hair.
- Ammonia-free dyes use a less harmful compound instead of ammonia in permanent dyes. However, if you use this product too much, your hair will still be damaged as if using permanent dye.
- If you must use heat to style your hair, try lowering the temperature of your curling iron or straightener, and avoid treating a section of hair more than once to give it a break. While it’s still better to not use a heat tool, it will help reduce damage to your hair anyway.
- Drinking lots of water is also beneficial. Just as apple cider vinegar cleanses your hair, water will help purify your entire body. The more hydrated you are, the healthier your body will be.
Use moisturizing products at home
- Mix 3 eggs with 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of coconut or olive oil. Apply a generous amount of the mixture to your hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly and let it dry naturally.
- Half a cup of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of almond oil mixed with 2 beaten eggs will form a smooth paste that you can massage the entire length of your hair. Leave the mixture on your hair for 30 minutes and use conditioner as usual.
- Mayonnaise also works, but then your hair will smell like the grocery store.
- If you’re extra careful, you can heat up 4 tablespoons of oil on the stove. When the oil is hot but not too hot , you can remove the oil from the stove and sprinkle it on your hair. Rub oil all over your hair. Cover your hair with a hot towel for best results.
- Use coconut oil. Heat the coconut oil in the microwave until it melts. Let the oil cool down so you can touch it. Rub warm coconut oil into your hair thoroughly. Leave the oil on your hair for 4-5 hours (or for as long as you like), then rinse.
- Another way you can just add honey to your regular shampoo!
- Mix apple cider vinegar with water in a ratio of 1:1 and wash it all over your hair. Leave the vinegar on your hair for 15 minutes, then wash it off. Continue to take care of your hair as usual.
