How to Craft Pistons in Minecraft

A piston is a cube that is capable of repelling other solids when a redstone circuit is placed inside. Pistons are capable of pushing most blocks depending on how they are placed, and sticky pistons are also capable of pulling. Making pistons is very simple, see the instructions below.

Manufacture of ordinary pistons

Find the required materials:

Find four cobblestones. Mine normal stones and they will turn into cobblestone, or mine cobblestone directly.
Collect a red stone. Redstone is found underground while you mine.
Collect an iron block. Iron blocks are also found underground, after which the iron needs to be melted.
Create three wooden planks. Cut the tree, and put a log on the crafting table, then you will have four wooden planks. Three wooden planks are used for the Piston Crafting Recipe.

Put all the above materials into the crafting frame according to the piston crafting recipe:

Place three wooden blocks in the top three horizontal slots of the crafting frame.
Place the iron block in the center of the crafting frame.
Place the redstone directly below the iron block.
Place cobblestone in the remaining square.

Making sticky pistons

Sticky piston can push and pull cube objects. Pistons are usually only capable of pushing. This property makes sticky pistons more versatile. However, the two pistons can usually be pushed backwards or forwards if necessary.

Place the piston and slimeball in the crafting frame as shown below:

Create sticky pistons. Once the crafting is complete, press the shift key and click or drag the piston into the inventory.

Put any redstone circuit (redstone dust) in the piston, and this will help prolong the life of the circuit. The piston will push the block next to it. If it’s a sticky piston, it’s also capable of pulling mass.

The redstone circuit must lead directly to the piston. There won’t be enough room for all the redstone to be placed next to the piston, and the piston won’t work. So you need to bend the circuit to activate the piston.

Advice

Piston cannot push a chain over 12 cubes. It’s too long string.
You can’t push several cubes with a piston (or pull). For example, the anvil would be too heavy to move. Pistons also cannot push obsidian, bedrock, end portals, and hell portals. Pistons can’t push lava and water, but they can stop their flow.
Some things will turn into pushables. For example, cacti, pumpkins, Ender dragon eggs, sugar cane, and pumpkin lanterns will turn into pellets when pushed. They will return to their original shape when you walk on them. Watermelons will turn into thin slices so your character can eat them (you can’t eat watermelon while it’s whole). The spider web will turn into a rope, which is used to make fishing rods and bows.
