How to Change the Link to Your Personal Facebook Page

This is an article on how to change the Facebook URL by changing the username. Your Facebook username is used as a custom web address displayed at the bottom of the link to your personal Facebook page. You can change your Facebook username using the Facebook page on your computer or the Facebook Messenger app for iOS or Android.

Open Facebook Messenger. It’s an app with a blue chat bubble icon and a white lightning bolt. While you can’t change the Facebook link on the Facebook mobile app, you can on Messenger.

If you’re not signed in to Messenger, sign in with your phone number (or email address) and Facebook password.
You can also open the Facebook Messenger app right in the Facebook app by tapping the lightning chat bubble icon displayed in the upper right corner.

Tap the black chat bubble icon in the lower left corner of the screen. If you are viewing the chat screen, click the back button in the upper left corner of the screen until you see the black chat bubble icon.

If Messenger opens a conversation, you’ll need to first tap the “Back” button in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Tap the profile icon. It’s the icon in the top left corner of the screen (iPhone) or the top right corner of the screen (Android).

On iPhone, this icon is your Facebook profile picture if you have set a profile picture.

Tap Username . This option is near the center of the screen.

Tap Edit Username . This selection is only visible when you touch Username .

Enter the new username. This is the name displayed after the “/” in the “www.facebook.com/” link.

Tap Save on iPhone or ✓ on Android. This option is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. The new username will show up at the bottom of your Facebook link.

If you don’t see this option, it means the username you just entered is not available.

Use your computer to change the link to your profile

Visit the Facebook page. Simply visit https://www.facebook.com/ using your computer’s browser.

If you’re not logged into Facebook, enter your email address (or phone number) and password before continuing.

Click Settings . This option is near the bottom of the currently displayed menu.

Click Username . It’s the option near the top of the list on the General page.

If you don’t see this option, make sure you’re viewing the General page by clicking General in the upper-left corner of the page.

Enter the new username. You will enter information in the field to the right of the word “Username”.

Click Save Changes . This is the blue button below the Username section.

If the button is gray instead of blue, it means the username you just entered is not available.

Enter your Facebook password and click Submit . If you enter the correct password, this will save the username and make changes to the Facebook path.

Advice

Facebook encourages you to use your real name in the link to your profile, because other people will easily find you based on the link.

Warning

Changing the link on a computer or mobile device will make the change happen on any synced device and service (such as Facebook Messenger).
It will take a while for the new link to show up as the username in Facebook Messenger.
