This is an article that shows you how to copy music from a CD to your computer. You can do this with iTunes and Windows Media Player.

Using iTunes

Insert the CD into the computer. Place the CD you want to burn music to in your computer’s CD drive with the side with the sticker facing up.

  • If a window appears on the screen when inserting a CD, you need to close the window before continuing.

Select a music format. Click the “Import using” checkbox at the top of the pop-up menu, then click the format you want to copy from the CD’s contents.

  • For example, you would click MP3 encoder to copy music in MP3 format to your computer.
  • By default, iTunes will save the CD file in the AAC format that can be used by most music players with better quality than the MP3 format.

Select the music quality if needed. Click the “Setting” drop-down box, then click the quality you want to file.

Click OK at the bottom of the window that appears to ask iTunes to start the process of burning music from the CD.

Wait for the music copying process to complete. Once the music is copied, iTunes will display a confirmation message and the progress bar will no longer be displayed at the top of the iTunes window.

Access and open albums in your library. Click Music in the upper-left corner of the iTunes page, then scroll down to the CD-ripped album and click to open it.

Right click on one of the songs. It doesn’t matter which song you right-click on, as long as it’s an album song from a CD, you will see a menu appear on the screen.

Wait for the CD burning process to complete. After Windows Media Player announces the process is complete, you can continue with other actions.

    Find music files. Go to the selected folder, double click the “Unknown artist” folder and double click the album folder inside. This will display all the copied music files; Now you can move, rename, copy or edit the file to your liking.

    • Some songs are protected by copyright which prevents the distribution of the songs. Duplicating CDs for backup purposes is acceptable, but giving to family and friends or selling them on the market is not allowed.

    Warning

    • However, burning music from a CD using Windows Media Player will display songs that are not properly named (such as “Track 1”, “Track 2”, etc.). You’ll have to name it yourself, as Window Media Player’s album info search tool no longer works.
