How to Bypass Firewalls and Internet Filters

Learn how to use UltraSurf. This is a program that does not need to be installed and can be used on computers with strict restrictions. Once started, UltraSurf will connect to the nearest proxy using your computer’s default browser and open an incognito (or private) window of your browser. You can use that browser to view blocked or restricted pages.

• However, UltraSurf is only available on Windows computers.

Open the UltraSurf site by visiting https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5711-ultrasurf.html from your computer’s web browser.

• If you can’t get this program when using a limited computer, you can download it at home and save it to a USB stick. Thus, you can run the program from USB.

Click the blue Download Now button in the upper-left corner of the page. This is the operation to download UltraSurf to your computer.

• UltraSurf will be downloaded as a ZIP folder.

Extract the UltraSurf ZIP folder in the following way:

• Double-click the ZIP folder.
• Click the Extract tab.
• Click Extract all .
• Click Extract again.

Open UltraSurf by double clicking on the u1704 icon in the extracted folder. With this, UltraSurf will start up immediately.

• If you have already downloaded UltraSurf to a USB stick, insert the USB into the computer with the limited settings and start the program.

Wait for the default browser to display. UltraSurf will take a few seconds to find and connect to the best unblocked proxy server on the network.

Unlimited web browsing. Once you see the browser window, you can use it to search for restricted content or view blocked websites.

Open a web browser. Click or double-click the default desktop browser’s application icon at the library.

Go to the proxy site. You can find a lot of free proxy sites and here are a few popular ones:

• HideMe – https://hide.me/en/proxy/
• CroxyProxy – https://www.croxyproxy.com/
• In case your network has blocked access to the above proxies, type online proxy free into a search engine and see the related results when you find an unblocked proxy.

Find and click the search bar. You’ll often find a “URL” or “Website” box in the middle of the page.

Enter the web address. Enter the address of the blocked page (such as “www.facebook.com”) in the input box.

• Most proxies don’t support searching keywords in the search bar, but you can use a standard search engine (like Google) right inside the proxy to find keywords.

Press ↵ Enter . This will ask the proxy to load your website.

• Since the proxy does not use a direct path from the computer to the server, this will take a few seconds longer than usual.

Unlimited web browsing. By using a proxy tag, you can access any previously blocked websites. Note, you will need to access the proxy tag to do this; opening a new browser tab or window and attempting to access content blocked here will fail.

Make sure your carrier allows tethering. “Tethering” is understood as the smartphone’s ability to use mobile data as a Wi-Fi connection on a computer. Not all carriers have this feature, but many will unlock tethering on mobile phones when requested (in some cases for a small fee).

Turn off your smartphone’s Wi-Fi in the following way:

  then uncheck or push the “Wi-Fi” slider to the off position.

Connect the phone charger to the computer. The rectangular USB 3.0 end of the phone charger will be attached to one of the USB ports on the computer.

• If you’re using a Mac computer with a Thunderbpt 3 (USB-C) connection, you’ll need a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter to connect the charging cord to your Mac.

Connect the charging cord to the phone. You’ll attach the other end of the charging cord to the connector on the bottom of your iPhone or Android.

Turn on tethering for your phone. This will vary depending on whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android:

Select your smartphone as your gateway to the Internet. On most computers, the smartphone’s connection will immediately take precedence because of the Ethernet connection; if you don’t see phone connection, you will click “Wi-Fi”

(on Mac) and select the name of the phone.

• Unlike wireless network sharing, you do not need to enter the network share password (shown in the network sharing menu) to connect to your device.
