Instructions to disable and limit AirPlay on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV

Open the Contrp Center (Control Center). If you want to play audio through an AirPlay-enabled device or speaker from your iPhone or iPad, you can easily turn off AirPlay at the Contrp Center.

• If your iPhone or iPad has Face ID, simply swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open Contrp Center.
• If your iPhone or iPad has a Home button, you’ll swipe up from the bottom to open the Contrp Center.

Tap the AirPlay icon on the music player. This is a triangular icon with lots of circles at the top. You should now see a list of devices, including the device that’s connected to AirPlay.

Select iPhone or iPad in the list of devices. For example, if you’re using an iPhone, you’d tap iPhone . This will switch audio playback to your iPhone or iPad’s speakers.

Open Settings

on iPhone or iPad. You will see a gear icon on the home screen or in the application list. If you keep accidentally activating AirPlay and want to prevent your iPhone or iPad from automatically connecting to an AirPlay-enabled device, you can change the setting to disable AirPlay auto-connect.

Tap General . You’ll see this option above the third section of the settings group.

Tap AirPlay & Handoff . This is the option in the second group of settings.

Tap Automatically AirPlay to TVs . This is the first setting on the list.

Tap Never . This will disable the AirPlay auto-connect feature.

Click the Contrp Center icon on Mac. This is the icon of two sliders in the menu bar in the upper right corner of the screen. If you want to mirror your Mac screen to a second monitor or Apple TV, here’s the method to help you disconnect from that device.

Click Screen Mirroring . This shows you a list of devices, including the connected device. ^[1]

Select the device to which you want to mirror the screen. This is to deselect the device and stop the screen mirroring via AirPlay. ^[2]

• If you use AirPlay to connect your Mac to a second display, click Display Preferences on the Screen Mirroring menu, choose the “AirPlay Display” menu, and select Off . .

Click the Contrp Center icon on Mac. This is the icon with two sliders in the menu bar in the upper right corner of the screen. If you want to play audio through AirPlay speakers, this method will help you disconnect the speakers so you can listen to the audio on your Mac.

Click the AirPlay icon. It’s a triangle with circles on top and shows up below “Sound”.

Choose your Mac’s built-in speakers. This will disconnect AirPlay and switch audio playback through your Mac’s built-in speakers. ^[3]

Open System Preferences on Mac. You’ll see this option in the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen. If you’d like to turn off allowing other devices to stream content to your Mac through AirPlay, continue with the steps below. ^[4]

Click Sharing . This is the folder icon in System Preferences.

Uncheck “AirPlay Receiver” (AirPlay Receiver Feature). If your Mac allows AirPlay reception from another device, you’ll see a checkmark next to “AirPlay Receiver” in the left pane. Unchecking will turn off AirPlay receiving on Mac.

• If you want some devices to connect to your Mac via AirPlay, you can leave the checkmark alone, and change the “Allow AirPlay for” selection to Current user for the device. device connected to your Apple ID, or Anyone on the same network to allow AirPlay connections only for devices on the same network

Open Apple TV’s Settings. You can do this by selecting the gear icon on Apple TV content. If you don’t want strangers to connect to your Apple TV via AirPlay, you can limit AirPlay connections from the Settings menu. ^[5]

Select AirPlay and HomeKit . More options will be displayed.

Select Allow Access . This shows you all the access options.
