Why go?

Stretching eight kilometres along the island’s windswept coastline, Canggu is divided into three black-sand beach areas: Berawa Beach, Echo Beach and Batu Bolong. This once once quiet pocket of Bali is a magnet for surfers and the waves cater to all levels, from beginners to pros.

Batu Bolong has the best swells at low to mid-tide, and the lengthy paddle out is rewarded with long rides on a powerful left-hand break. The choppier waves and rockier reefs of Berawa and Echo Beach require a little more experience, but strong easterly winds create consistent conditions through the year.

If you’d rather stick to dry land, join the crowds at Echo Beach House for a juicy barbecue and watch as riders slide along the last waves under a golden sunset.

When to go?

There are two seasons in Canggu: one dry, the other very wet. The dry season lasts from May until September and the rest of the year sees quite a bit of rain and high wind, but this won’t be a problem if you’re there to surf.
