Canada is famous for its wild winters but its summers are equally thrilling, with hot and sunny weather that allows you to get out and explore the country’s immense landscapes – starting with the coastline.

For those travelling with children in tow, we’ve found some of the best family-friendly beaches throughout Canada.

Jean-Dore Beach, Quebec

Blonde sand and shady trees, Jean-Dore Beach has everything needed for an epic day hanging with the family. The kids are going to adore the activities on offer, in particular, the bouncy castle called ‘Aquazilla’ that floats just offshore. Here, they can spend endless hours frolicking in the water, while you can have some downtime kayaking or paddle boarding. Parlee Beach, New Brunswick

Parlee Beach’s warm waters and golden sand framed by grassy marshes make it an ideal destination for a family day out. The beach stretches for over one kilometre, so there will always plenty of space. And there are activities galore for you and the kids, including beach volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, sand-sculpture competitions and other daily scheduled sports activities. French Beach Provincial Park, British Columbia

If your family is in search of an educational trip to a naturally beautiful beach, French Beach Provincial Park is a great option. At low tide, there are hundreds of rock pools crawling with an entire ecosystem of sea life. Offshore, you may even spot pods of killer whales, otters, seals and sea lions. Take your kids on a wildlife-spotting nature trail through the park, keeping an eye out for frogs, salamanders and small mammals such as minks, squirrels and raccoons. Outlet Beach, Ontario

Outlet Beach spans three and a half kilometres between Salmon Point and West Point, on the shores of Lake Ontario. There are also plenty of looping walking or cycling trails, so you can explore the area, visiting local organic farms, wineries, breweries and cheese factories. Ambleside Beach, British Columbia
