Powder hunting in Hokkaido
Meet Julie Nieuwenhuys, a recruitment team lead at Booking.com and Dutch ski journalist, spending her free time chasing feather-light, hip-deep powder around the world.
Together with a ski buddy and photographer Caroline, she has been traveling the world to ski the best powder for several years. The pair met five years ago on a Dutch avalanche course and quickly realized they had the same dream: to ski powder preferably every day. At that time, they put their serious corporate careers on hold and started redefining their lives by becoming ‘ski journalists’, a self-created title. Their stories have since been published in over 15 countries and their pictures have been used in international marketing campaigns in Japan, Canada and the Netherlands.
Recently, Julie headed off on an adventure to explore the Hokkaido Powder Belt in Japan
Recently, they both headed to Japan to carve fresh, deep and dry snow, skiing through dense birch forests on the island of Hokkaido. On this remarkable snow odyssey, Julie skied through areas with no ski patrol (with a local guide, though), down the sides of a smoking volcano, and fully explored the Hokkaido Powder Belt.
